Irene Orleansky's music can be distinguished by her contrasting singing and playing manners. Her voice brings you to the world of woomanhood, sensuality and tenderness, while her Chapman Stick fills her music with electric energy.
Irene started her journey in the world of music at the age of four. She got her degree in classical music and tried herself in many musical fields - from singing and playing the bass in a rock band to conducting a chorus of Renaissance and Gregorian music.
The most distinguished period of her musical life started when she discovered for herself the Chapman Stick - a revolutionary 10-string electric instrument invented by the Californian luthier Emmett Chapman. Although the Chapman Stick can function as the electric guitar and the bass at once, it is well known for its own unique sound. The Stick is played with two hands simultaneously with the method known as tapping, where the sound is produced by pressing the strings with the fingers, similarly to how the pianist presses the keys of the piano.
Irene's highly professional skills as a singer and Chapman Stick player can be heard in her album "Live The Music." The songs of the album cannot be described by only one style. Though in general the style of the album can be qualified as pop music, it also combines the elements of world music and progressive rock. The impact of world music is especially noticeable in ethnically influenced melodies and multilingual lyrics, and progressive rock is mainly expressed in Irene's bass lines and solos performed on the Chapman Stick. The music and the lyrics of the songs bring about the great variety of emotions - from despair to joy, from friendliness to loneliness, from hopelessness to happiness. Some pieces can make your feet start dancing spontaneously, while others will make you sink into meditative mood.
The valuable contribution to the album was collaboration with the producer and singer Kirill Malahov, also called by many the Master of the Russian sound, one of the world's most renowned Chapman Stick players Guillermo Cides from Argentina, and one of the top Israeli dj's and remix artists Asi Kojak. The album was recorded mainly via the Internet in three countries - Russia, Israel and Spain.
Orleansky's live shows are truly innovatory - she sings, plays the Stick and records herself into loops in real time on the stage, using a Powerbook laptop equipped with the program Ableton Live and a MIDI foot controller, this way managing to produce alone the sound of a complete band, astonishing the audience with perfect control and coordination.
Together with Kirill Malahov, Irene works on productions and numerous projects of their independent label Music Brothers Records.
